Ignite the future with fuel cells. Fuel cells are like batteries but without charger. These cells use fuel’s chemical and an oxidizer like oxygen or air to generate electric power. Fuels that can be used in fuel cells are methanol, natural gas, hydrogen, butane etc. As long as there is fuel and oxidant in fuel cell, it shall provide the desired power.
With methanol fuel cells already in market and research going on in Hydrogen fuel cells, future of battery power is going to shift drastically. Cell phones, digital cameras, iPoDs, laptops or GPS, all are fuel cell powered devices. No need to worry of running short of charge since fuel cell devices can provide power for days. We can continue browsing internet to send those important e-mails or listen to our favorite music much longer with these fuel cells that are as good as 3 to 20 times that of normal batteries.
Companies are working hard to make fuel cells smaller, less costly and without any overheating. US Government has allowed methanol to be used as fuel in airplanes. Cigarette lighter size fuel cells are going to be in market soon that shall use butane as the fuel. Panasonic is talking of 20 hours laptop runtime with a cup of methanol and Medis is talking of fuel cells that shall provide 30 hours talk time in mobile phones. With so much research in the area and regulatory support, fuel cells shall be the future power devices.

from the 19th century.Since the usages and the development of fuel cells were coming in a long way.Fueling cells plays a main role for fuel vehicles. Here is some history of the fuel cells.Fuel cells were invented by William Grove in 1839.In 1950s proton exchange membrane fuel cells were invented by general electric. The first use of commercial fuel cells was in 1960’s by NASA’s for Apollo space mission.Alkaline fuel cell which is used by NASA for more than 80,000 hours in space craft and it has flown over 100 missions. In 1980’s fuel cells were used in submarine by US navy.In many cities bus were driven with this fuel cells. For fishing fleet from the diesel engine to fuel cells is have plan to converted in ICELAND.By the year of 2005 many car manufacturing commercial users were trying to produce their semi-commercial models with fuel cells. It is 60% efficient to convert power from the fuel.It can reduce pollutions, that can be produced by the burning of fossils fuels.fuel cells didn’t need fuels which are conventional like gas or oil.

: The truth Or Myth About Fuel Cells
Hydrogen is the universe’s most abundant element and it is a medium to store energy. The latest generation fuel cells are used by General Motors in their new cars. There are many promising advances taking place in the field of new era cars.
General Motors has cut down the size of fuel cells to half.It comes to about 220 pounds and it consumes less amount of hydrogen. This fifth generation fuel cell will come to effect only by about 2015.
Suzuki has introduced three fuel cell concepts at the Tokyo Motor Show. One is a car, another is a motor scooter and the third one is an electric wheel chair. The electric scooter has a 10,000 psi storage for its on board hydrogen. The electric wheel cair uses a menthol fuel cell for its power storage.
Toyota has completed a government field evaluation about its advance fuel cell hybrid vehicle.Mercedez -Benz has put strong bets on fuel cells.

Two universities have just made some impressive discoveries about bacteria. Tsinghua University and Penn State University have worked together to discover that bacteria actually has properties that can eventually turn things like dirty salt water into useful things such as electricity and clean water. Such a discovery allows us to look at microbial fuel cells in a new light, which had previously been only used to make electricity or for the storage of electricity in the form of methane gas or hydrogen. The people who made the discovery thinks that the microbial fuel cell is the basis for taking things like organic waste and turning it into energy.
One of the most amazing thing is that this was possible with just a cup of water from a natural source or a pond. The scientists discovered that some of the microbes (among millions of other microbes which are less useful) have the properties that will creat electrons and protons. They do this within their own cells, and then let the energy be ejected outside of the cell. Some of the other types of bacteria then take these electroncs nad protos and turn them into hydrogen. Some also turn them into methane and various other chemicals that can be energy.

Hi folks, be ready to build your own tank instead of a sink to preserve all that urine you let it go free. The latest research by a Ohio University based scientist claims to have come up with a nickel based electrode to oxidize a chemical-(NH2)2CO-which is nothing other than animal urea.
While all efforts are towards making electric power driven cars, there lies a side view towards this new discovery. Already the much talked about hydrogen fuel cells for cars have been hushed up. The main disadvantage in hydrogen fuel cells is that the hydrogen molecules are not floating around unaccompanied. They are to be split from other atoms to which they have a serious bond. It needs more energy to split them . It means you need an extra energy that is normally required to move your car.
Now that this new discovery is there, it is possible to split hydrogen atom from the urea with lesser energy. It requires a mere 0.37 volts to remove the hydrogen atom from a urine molecule which is equivalent to just 25percent of the energy required to split a hydrogen from a water molecule. It is a clear evidence that energy balance obtained from ‘urea derived’ hydrogen is a better choice.
Now are you able to perceive that car manufacturers have already started secret discussions on strategies for winning a tender for maintaining local sewerage treatment facility. If so please preserve your urine which may be exchanged for cash.

I am sure you all remember seeing the old movies where they were set in the future. You know the one. The one with the flying cars and houses that clean themselves and children who play in the park with mechanical dogs that bark in 5 different languages. Well, we may not be that advanced but at least we do have some of those hydrogen powered cars. Or at least about 200 people in the entire population of Earth have them. What we once thought was the wave of the future has turned out to be an expense that the normal citizen’s pocketbook can’t handle. Not only are these futuristic dream cars too expensive to purchase, they are also too expensive to make. To be built correctly it must be done by hand. It will be at least another 15 years before these master machines can be produced in bulk. Before we can even begin to dream about releasing hydrogen powered v vehicles into the community first we need to hydrogen fueling stations to provide them with power. Those types of buildings are almost as much of impossibility as the cars themselves. But with leaps and bounds being made daily in technology, maybe the newest futuristic movie can portray them and maybe they will be seen in our lifetime other than on the big screen

The cost of gas is skyrocketing and this is making it ever more expensive to operate a vehicle. Many of us have to drive very great distances though to get to work, to shop, and to get to the many other locations we need to be in a given day. Given the amount of driving we have to do this means we will inevitably burn a lot of gas in the process. As the price of gas rises this is ensuring that gas eats up a larger and larger portion of our budget. This is an unacceptable situation and it is not unforeseeable that the price of gas will rise by an even more significant percentage in the coming year. Given this, it is critical to have alternatives and many such alternatives are well down their development pipeline. These alternatives are not only important from a cost perspective but are also important from an environmental perspective as the burning of fossil fuels does tremendous damage to our environment. This is why fuel cells are such a great option. Fuel cells are already beginning to be used in vehicles and fuel cells provide a very cost efficient as well as environmentally friendly option to power vehicles.

Research has exposed a preferably involvement twist of consequences into the Global Warming Sage. And evidently ramifications have developed along with the temperatures. You ascertain fuel cells render a lot of heat energy during the transition operation; nearly double that of daily reciprocator engines.
Figuring out the Nation’s troubles with respect to contamination is a judicious thing to do, yet if we just barter one trouble for some other we have basically cleared nothing. Are we certain we like to increment urban heat energy with billions of fuel cell automobiles gamboling? Hydrogen is also hard to depot and chilling of compacted hydrogen takes energy also.
Hydrogen collection with electric current engineering’s isn’t genuinely gratuitous, as it prices income to accumulate and filter out. If the hydrogen sits in your fuel storage tank for 3 days it may escape as a great deal as fifty percent and then you’d bear lower fuel as the hydrogen entirely escaped from oozing out of your fuel storage tank.
Storage of hydrogen won’t be so comfortable either because it should be maintained very cold. These are barely a few of the effects that search scientists are running through right now and will finally get it all worked out, but believe it a lengthier term destination for about 10-20 years or so. Now there have been crucial new improvements and fabrics such as Carbon Nano-Tubes might be the solution to preclude escaping.

Fuel Cells
The story of the fuel cell may be deciphered back to the nineteenth century. Since then the evolution and employment of fuel cells in an array of practical applications have get along way. Fuel cells admit excellent assurance for fueling alternate fuel automobiles.
William Grove formulated the fuel cell in 1839. General Electric fabricated proton exchange tissue layer fuel cells in the fifties. Francis Bacon presented a 5kW alkalic fuel cell in 1959. NASA’s employment of fuel cells on the Apollo distance missions in the sixties was the 1st commercialized employment of fuel cells. Alkalic fuel cells have aviated over a hundred missions and functioned for more than eighty thousand hrs in space vehicles controlled by NASA. The United States Navy has been employing fuel cells in submarines since the eighties
Fuel cell coaches are executing in a lot of metropolises about the globe, the biggest comprising of the European Union backed CUTE propose (Clean Urban Transport for European Community). All great car manufacturers have paradigms of alternate fuel automobiles using fuel cells on the road-some have already been engaged to clients. Republic of Iceland has policies to change over its fishing fleet from diesels to hydrogen fuel cells as portion of a national envision to produce a fossil fuel free economic system. A lot of auto manufacturers are hoping to give rise their 1st semi-commercial modeling of fuel cell automobiles by 2005, yet they’ll most likely not be mass developed till 2010.
