Who Said Fuel Cells Were the Wave of the Future?

by Fuel Cell Mike on September 28, 2009

I am sure you all remember seeing the old movies where they were set in the future. You know the one. The one with the flying cars and houses that clean themselves and children who play in the park with mechanical dogs that bark in 5 different languages. Well, we may not be that advanced but at least we do have some of those hydrogen powered cars. Or at least about 200 people in the entire population of Earth have them. What we once thought was the wave of the future has turned out to be an expense that the normal citizen’s pocketbook can’t handle. Not only are these futuristic dream cars too expensive to purchase, they are also too expensive to make. To be built correctly it must be done by hand. It will be at least another 15 years before these master machines can be produced in bulk. Before we can even begin to dream about releasing hydrogen powered v vehicles into the community first we need to hydrogen fueling stations to provide them with power. Those types of buildings are almost as much of impossibility as the cars themselves. But with leaps and bounds being made daily in technology, maybe the newest futuristic movie can portray them and maybe they will be seen in our lifetime other than on the big screen

Fuel cell devices are versatile in all

by Fuel Cell Mike on September 28, 2009

An effective cell with all features is the alkaline fuel cell. It has the wonderful feature of fact that it has been sent to moon for various purposes and thus it has the distinguished fact when compared to others type of cells. fuel cell devices are
exemplary devices that produces a pure oxygen and hence it has been widely use din space purposes. It is mostly found in all space activities wherein which the scientist do a wonderful research with purposes. It finds the predominant place while a research goes on. Major of the scientists are using this device for their scientific study and hence it is recognized as the world wide wonder than that of anything. Mostly fuel cell powered have been used in the production of electricity and hence the process of generating electricity is highly been formed by this. Apart from using this for various productions, it has to be taken care to cope with the carbon-dioxide sensitivity as it has fewer copes. While the advantages are in upper hand the use of this cell device is highly recognized as the better cell than anything.

It is a device, which can be easily produced without involving a lot of cost. Very cheaper and easy to handle. Hence, this versatile deice has to be enhanced if further research is done to a dazzling height.

New Demand for Methanol: Fuel Cell

by Fuel Cell Mike on September 28, 2009

The petrol chemical industry plays a major and important role in our everyday life. Almost everything that we are dependent on nowadays is made from petrochemicals. These include plastics, home appliances, clothes, footwear and a lot more other applications. This industry is a rapidly developing and changing one and professional and others in the industry need to keep up-to-date with the latest cutting age developments. This is because new processes, new product and new chemicals with new applications are invented or discovered everyday.

The US department of transport has approved to permit in-house use of modern methanol powered fuel cells that are used to power computers and other portable gadgets. It is therefore expected that there will be a slight to significant increase in the use of fuel cell and methanol in everyday use especially in portable devices.

Passengers will be allowed to use methanol in commercial airline passenger compartments. This will also be allowed in the crew compartments as well.
All the major manufacturers of hand held devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, DVD players and laptops, will see a significant or perhaps a slight boost in their overall sales figures.

Thus a significant growth and expansion is expected in the petrol chemical industry and this will see a significant growth in hand held devices.

Breakthroughs in fuel cell devices

by Fuel Cell Mike on September 27, 2009

Scientists in both the United States and France have made major breakthroughs in miniature fuel cells, making the possible the replacement of battery-powered appliances with fuel cell powered devices in the near future.

The scientists in the United States have created a fuel cell that is three millimeters in diameter that produces 1 milliampere at 1 millivolt of tension. It does so with very few parts. A reservoir of water is separated from a metal hydride solution by a porous membrane. Tension in the water allows it to seep through the membrane, where it reacts with the metal hydride solution to form hydrogen. The release of hydrogen both increases the pressure in that part of the fuel cell enough to stop the water from seeping through the membrane and also reacts with electrodes to generate the actual energy. Because it uses water tension rather than gravity, the fuel cell can face any direction. This feature is important for use in portable electronic devices that might be rotated in any direction.

French scientists have created a fuel cell three times as big as the one created by the U.S. scientists, and it produces much more power. It uses methanol rather than metal hydride, and the methanol must be added to the cell from an external source. Both the methanol fuel cell and the water fuel cell are great strides toward a fuel-cell-powered reality.
